The role of the federal government is to provide funding for meaningful research by qualified scholars and to move schools toward reasonable consistency in proven instructional techniques. Also, funding needs to be provided to lighten the teacher workload, while hiring better compensation for teachers who can comprehend and apply more effective teaching techniques. Teachers who continue to fail students because of stupid issues like late or incomplete homework should be dismissed.

Finally, research should identify and eliminate the waste in education (especially regarding wasted time) and provide more time for teachers to prepare and students to learn.
