Should American schools use dictionary based vocabulary learning and testing to reduce K-12 instruction costs and simultaneously improve instructional results — measurably so?

That is an interesting question.  It sounds like a solid idea.  It be wonderful to see students carry dictionaries and actually know how to spell instead of always depending on spell check.

A good idea, and cheap, too.  But won't teachers object to dictionaries as intellectual competitors?

Do kids need another big heavy book in their back packs?  What's wrong with learning from an electronic dictionary?
