Until I was contacted (April 2009) by a journalist researching the history of Kanawha County Textbook War, I had sort of put the event into a category similar to what many Vietnam era veterans  did with that war.

DARWIN IS DEAD (Leave Him in the Grave)

By Karl Priest
Darwin is dead and his unscientific racist ideas should to be buried also. Led by the atheistic and misnamed National Center for Science Education and enabled by the main-stream media, colleges, museums, and public schools have launched a last ditch effort to salvage Darwinism

The governor wanted to allow the free market to deliver an alternative to public schools. Teacher unions and politicians (who are controlled by teacher unions) complained.

BACK TO THE FUTURE

Karl Priest
The good citizens of Kanawha County, WV, despite suffering from raising prices of fuel and everything else, have generously agreed to tax themselves even more by passing another bond levy. As always, the hardest working and most successful teachers will receive the same levy benefits as their lazy and/or lousy colleagues. Even with the billions of years of evolutionism taught in KCS, terrible teachers will never become excellent educators--at any price.
